my training

I am an osteopathic physician (DO), having received my doctorate at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM).  I graduated with honors, as a member of Sigma Sigma Phi, the osteopathic academic honor society.

My training entailed learning all of the standard practices of western medicine; however, my studies were supplemented with osteopathic techniques, such as Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) and various osteopathic beliefs, such as the mind-body-spirit connection and the relationship between structure and function in the human body. During my training, lectures and workshops were given by numerous well-respected physicians, including Dr. Stephen Blood, a nationally recognized OMM practioner, and Dr. Per Gunnar Brolinson, Director of Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at VCOM, a graduate school of Virginia Tech, Olympic physician, and nationally-renowed sports medicine speaker.

In 2012, I became a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), the leader in scientifically educating and providing evidence-based solutions to professionals in the health, fitness, and sports medicine fields since 1987. In 2013, I decided to further specialize my training with NASM and am now a Women’s Fitness Specialist (WFS).

As an NASM Personal Trainer, I am trained to use their Optimum Performance Training (OPT) Model. OPT is a type of integrative fitness training that incorporates: flexibility, balance training, cardiorespiratory training, resistance training, core training, reactive training, and speed, agility, and quickness training. I incorporate all of these training methods into a systematically progressive program to help my clients reach their personal fitness and active lifestyle goals.

I trained as a Health Coach at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and received my certification as a Certified Health Coach (CHC) through the American Academy of Drugless Practitioners.

During my training, I studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. My teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities.
My education has equipped me with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health. Drawing on these skills and my knowledge of different dietary theories, I work with clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.
